Summer movie fun

We don't go to the movies often. Before the kids came along, Eric and I saw a lot of movies. Once you have a baby, it's not really worth getting a sitter and paying him/her $15, plus $20 for the movies with no food or drink because that could easily cost another $10, and then spending 2-3 hours sitting in silence while you could be doing something more constructive. Don't get me wrong, I love movies and we still watch them, just now on Blu-ray in the comfort of our home for a giant savings once the kids are in bed.

In April, a friend told me about the summer movie program offered by Harkin's Theatres and I didn't really pursue it because I figured Emma and Josh were too young for multiple weeks of movies. We are not anti-tv in our house but neither child will really sit and just watch for more than a half an hour at a time without getting distracted by something else. Emma has been to the theater 4 times and does rather well and Josh has been once (with their sitter who said he did well but I wasn't so sure).

After hearing another friend talk about how cheap the tickets are for the summer movies I decided to check it out. I was amazed by the good deal the tickets really are. I also liked that you picked the day to go and the theater you wanted. Luckily, a friend I used to teach with was able to get 2 tickets (Josh is still free. Bonus!) for Fridays through her school before they went on sale to the public.

Today was our first trip to the movies, we missed last we because of the ultrasound. I was a bit worried, the movie was not a cartoon and I wasn't sure how it would go over. The kids did fantastic, Josh even better than Emma! We got some popcorn in a refillable bag (after the refill, I plan on popping my own and bringing it) and had souvenir cups that refill for $1. The movie was cute as can be and one of my favorite childhood books and the whole adventure cost us less than $10. I am looking forward to next week and going back to the movie feeater (as Josh says) with the kids!
