We don't go to the movies often. Before the kids came along, Eric and I saw a lot of movies. Once you have a baby, it's not really worth getting a sitter and paying him/her $15, plus $20 for the movies with no food or drink because that could easily cost another $10, and then spending 2-3 hours sitting in silence while you could be doing something more constructive. Don't get me wrong, I love movies and we still watch them, just now on Blu-ray in the comfort of our home for a giant savings once the kids are in bed.
In April, a friend told me about the summer movie program offered by Harkin's Theatres and I didn't really pursue it because I figured Emma and Josh were too young for multiple weeks of movies. We are not anti-tv in our house but neither child will really sit and just watch for more than a half an hour at a time without getting distracted by something else. Emma has been to the theater 4 times and does rather well and Josh has been once (with their sitter who said he did well but I wasn't so sure).
After hearing another friend talk about how cheap the tickets are for the summer movies I decided to check it out. I was amazed by the good deal the tickets really are. I also liked that you picked the day to go and the theater you wanted. Luckily, a friend I used to teach with was able to get 2 tickets (Josh is still free. Bonus!) for Fridays through her school before they went on sale to the public.
Today was our first trip to the movies, we missed last we because of the ultrasound. I was a bit worried, the movie was not a cartoon and I wasn't sure how it would go over. The kids did fantastic, Josh even better than Emma! We got some popcorn in a refillable bag (after the refill, I plan on popping my own and bringing it) and had souvenir cups that refill for $1. The movie was cute as can be and one of my favorite childhood books and the whole adventure cost us less than $10. I am looking forward to next week and going back to the movie feeater (as Josh says) with the kids!

It's a.....
Last Friday, we had our 20 week ultrasound. Last Wednesday, we were not finding out the sex of the baby. Last Thursday night as I put Emma to bed and talked to her about coming to the ultrasound she asked me some very valid questions.
Question #1 Do they put on special glasses to see the baby in your belly?
Question #2 Does the gel they put on the special wand hurt when they look at the baby?
Question #3 Will it take a long time?
Question #4 Will they be able to tell me if I'm having a baby brother or a baby sister?
I thought it was so adorable that she was taking such an interest in the ultrasound that I called my mom and told her the story. After talking with her, I decided it was silly to not find out the sex when Emma was so excited to know.
On Friday, we arrived at 10:30. 45 minutes later I was finally being called back, honestly who makes a pregnant girl with a full bladder wait that long! Turns out they had gotten new equipment and the ultrasound tech was being trained. So yes, we got to see the baby on a giant flat screen tv instead of the normal tiny monitor but I still think my bladder is revolting.
After getting all the standard questions and measurements out of the way, the tech asked if we'd like to know the babies sex. We directed the question to Emma and let her be in charge (which she loves to do) and she answered quickly that she wanted to know. Later Eric and I agreed that we had both already figured out what the baby was when the tech was searching in that area before asking us. I guess after 5 ultrasounds, you get pretty good at knowing what to look for!
Emma is excited that she is having a baby sister and Eric is still trying to cope with the fact that we will be paying for two weddings one day. I am excited to be having another girl and even more excited that her birthday falls in the same season as Emma's. Thank God for hand-me-downs! I think a little girl will be easier for Josh to adjust to and that he is going to be sweeter with her than he would be with a boy.
I am glad in the end we decided (with a little persuasion from Emma) to find out. I probably would have gone crazy not knowing and now I can start laundry before she arrives. We can also start the never ending task that is throwing around names. Maybe just maybe, she might be our first child with a name before they force us to name her in the hospital because the birth certificate has to be filled out. :o)

Numero 3
When Eric and I were first married, I wanted 4 children. When Emma was born, I wanted no more children. When Emma was close to 2, I changed my mind and knew I wanted another child. Right after Josh was born, I knew we would one day add another child to our family.
I am almost 16 weeks along and am excited for our third child to arrive sometime in October. This pregnancy has already been very different then my pregnancy with Emma and Josh. At exactly five weeks, I hit a brick wall and began feeling very sick. The thought of food made me nauseous but not eating made me sicker. I threw up almost every morning and sometimes in the afternoon or evening. I tried forcing myself to eat every 2 hours but sometimes I just couldn't do it. It was the longest 8 weeks of my life but finally at 13 weeks, I began to feel like food was my friend again. Right about then, my belly popped out and I definitely look more pregnant than I should for 16 weeks, but whatever.
Now that I am showing, Emma is excited and talks to me all the time about her new baby sister. I think it's adorable that she has deemed this baby a girl and it will be interesting to see who is right, her or Eric who has decided the baby is a boy. We should be scheduling our ultrasound soon and this time, we aren't going to find out what we are having. I'm not sure I won't go a bit nutty not knowing being that I am such a control freak but I am sure I can survive for 24 more weeks.

Easter
Our Easter was a beautiful day spent with family. We started out the morning by heading to 8:30 mass with m dad at Mary Magdalene. When we arrived, I was surprised to see that everyone was headed in to the church and that there were plenty of seats outside. I love sitting outside for mass, and was happy to sit under the tent in the beautiful weather that morning. After mass, my dad stayed for breakfast and we were able to Skype with Danielle, Kevin, and my mom (who was in NC for the week).
After naps we headed over to the Hildwine's house for an egg hunt and dinner. The kids loved finding their eggs and loved that each egg contained change for their piggy banks. Dinner was yummy (as it always is when Ginger cooks) and we had a nice time spending the evening with Eric's aunts, uncle, and cousin who were in town from Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

To dye for
Well our eggs are not really to die for but it was fun coloring them nonetheless. Emma was like an old pro this year and knew just what to do. She kept giving tips to Josh who just didn't get the memo and dropped every egg into the dye cup which caused a big splash. He thought that it was fantastic and kept saying again with every splash, we finally cut him off when his hands were officially stained blue.
Later that day, both of the kids helped peel an egg, slice it with the magic egg slicer, and ate. Josh got about 1/2 of the way through and gave up and Emma took a few bites and mushed the rest to bits. I can't say I blame them much and am certainly glad Eric won't let the rest of the eggs go to waste.

D-O-G spells drama
Two Thursdays ago, we took Sophie in to have her spay, they told me at the clinic that everything went great and sent us home with some pain pills. By that evening Sophie started bleeding and I was a bit worried. On Friday the clinic called to check on her and told me that sometimes it is normal for female dogs to bleed a bit after surgery.
Saturday evening I decided to call a 24 hour vet hospital when I realized that she was still bleeding because I just didn't feel like it was normal. The vet hospital confirmed what the clinic said but that if it didn't stop by Sunday evening we should bring her in. They also instructed us to watch the color of her gums to determine if she was loosing too much blood.
Sophie continued to bleed on Sunday so Monday I called the clinic and took her back down to have the vet look her over. Turns out, she had an infection so they gave us antibiotics and sent us on our way. Tuesday morning we woke to find Sophie covered in blood and after calling the clinic again and being told to check back in on Wednesday, I decided to take her to our regular vet to get their opinion. Our vet agreed with the infection but wasn't sure why she was bleeding, he thought maybe she had a clotting problem and wanted to do some blood work. When he brought back a quote for $288 I nearly had a heart attack and decided we would watch her for another day. That evening while Eric and I were applying a warm compress to her belly, I noticed a small hole above her incision that was bleeding. Feeling confident in my own veterinary skills since I wasn't getting any answers from the actual vets, I decided this is why she had been bleeding so much the last day.
Wednesday morning I called the clinic once more and nicely insist they see her again. Hours later, I was called back and told to bring her in immediatley which I did when I was able to leave work. At first glance, they told me they would stitch up the hole but when they got a closer look, they decided to open the poor dog back up and start over. When I picked her up a few hours later they informed me she had a drainage tube placed under the incision and that they used nondissolvable stitches. I was also told that she had to be as inactive as possible for the next 5 days, total piece of cake with a lively puppy.
So, Sophie has been confined to her crate since Wednesday and I think she is starting to go a bit nuts. We let her out at night once the kids are in bed, she gets too crazy when they are up and a few times during the day to use the bathroom. Hopefully on Monday when I take her back to have the drain removed we will be able to be a little less restrictive with her. It will be nice when things are back to normal and the dog drama around here is over with!
